Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen came off the bench for his second debut in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Fatih Karagümrük.
Barış Yılmaz opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a stunning strike from the left side of the box, beating Günay Güvenç.
Things got worse for Karagümrük in the 23rd minute when Marius Trésor Doh was sent off for a dangerous foul on Davinson Sánchez.
Karagümrük tried staying compact, but we’re broken down in the 74th minute when Yunus’s shot was deflected into the net by Fatih Kurucuk.
Mauro Icardi sealed the win in the 87th minute after Lucas Torreira found him free in the box, the veteran fired it home.
Nigerian forward, Osimhen came on in the 60th minute, replacing Mario Lemina. He had a decent game, his best chance coming in the 80th minute when he headed just wide from Barış cross.
He should have gotten an assist late on, he laid a precise pass for Kaan Ayhan, but the defender couldn’t put his shot down as he blazed it into the stands.
Despite the comfortable win, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk was a bit critical of his side’s performance:
“We didn’t start well. I don’t think we played very well for most of the match. We improved after the subs came on, especially when Osimhen and Icardi entered. They gave us more attacking strength.”
He expressed satisfaction with Icardi’s goal and also spoke about the team’s progress:
“Icardi scoring made us happy, but we need to take things step by step. The Champions League is coming, and we’ll shape the team accordingly.”
The 51 year-old also praised the impact of Osimhen and Icardi:
“After Osimhen and Icardi came in, our game improved significantly.”
Galatasaray now have six points, six goals, and two clean sheets from their opening two league games.
