Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle spoke about the Super Eagles ahead of their African Nations Championship tie against Sudan.
Chelle expressed the importance of the game, describing it as somewhat “do or die.”
He emphasized the CHAN Eagles getting all three points in order to have hope of progressing to the next round:
“I just want to win the game. It’s my game project. I know that it’s a game project that rewards a lot of intensity and aggression. In the last moments of the game, I know it might be difficult for us.
“To stay ambitious, we need to win this game against Sudan, but I don’t want to talk about the ambition of the players and the group.
“I just want to talk about this game. We need to win tomorrow, and after that, we will see. The most important thing is this game; I won’t talk about the players.”
He also admitted to the pressure and expectations from Nigerians.
Chelle stressed how much pressure the team was under following the defeat to Senegal:
“I know there is pressure on us, and it’s normal. We are a big country, a great football nation, and we need to do better in the next game, so we are focused on that.
“The reality now is that we are low, but we are together as a unit. If we get the three points after the game, it will breathe more life into the group.”
Nigeria will take on Sudan in their second group match at around 6 PM Nigeria time.
