WAFCON2024: CAF Lifts the Veil on Dazzling New WAFCON Trophy

With the opening whistle of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) only hours away, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) staged a glittering ceremony on Wednesday, 2 July 2025 at Hotel Casablanca to unveil a brand‑new TotalEnergies WAFCON trophy — the first redesign in the tournament’s 34‑year history.

“The new trophy is part of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s vision to grow and develop women’s football in Africa,” the governing body declared in a statement.

Design That Speaks Volumes

  • Blooming Flower: Twelve identical silver petals spiral upward — one for each participating nation — forming a single blossoming corolla that symbolises growth, empowerment and unity.

  • Golden Heart: A football‑textured sphere, plated in matte gold and etched with a gleaming map of Africa, crowns the piece, reflecting continental pride and global ambition.

  • CAF Ring: The stem is wrapped in a gold band engraved with the CAF logo, underscoring the confederation’s pledge to elevate the women’s game across all 54 member associations.

  • Marble Pedestal: A pristine white base with gold‑accented grooves carries the competition name in refined lettering, anchoring the trophy’s legacy in African sport.

“Each petal tells the story of a nation; together they reveal the power of one continent,” a CAF designer explained during the showcase.

The unveiling aligns with CAF’s 2021‑2025 Action Plan, which doubled WAFCON prize money to US $2.4 million (winners pocket US $1 million). Dr Motsepe said last year:

“This is a commitment to the players, to the young girls who dare to dream, and to all those investing in the future of women’s football in Africa.”
