Nigeria will continue their preparation for the 2024 WAFCON when the Super Falcons takes on their Portuguese counterparts in an international friendly, this Monday.
The Super Falcons are seeking to win a record extending 10 titles at the WAFCON and kick off their campaign in group B against Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria in Casablanca.
Head coach of the team, Justin Madugu is brimming with confidence and says they are focused and understand the objective in Morocco.
Speaking with Brila.net, Madugu admits that there’s pressure and the expectation is high on this group to bring back the trophy.
‘Although it’s a challenge that we must take up and we cannot lower the standards. We are Nigeria and it puts added pressure but we can’t shy away from it.
‘We can’t take any team for granted now and the players understand this – we see it in their conduct in camp. So we just have to go out there and do the job.’
Meanwhile, former U20 WNT head coach, Bala Nkiyu has backed the Super Falcons to get a win against Portugal in Monday’s friendly in Amadora.
Portugal are ranked 22nd by FIFA and it is the first meeting against Nigeria who go into the WAFCON as the highest ranked African team.
Nkiyu insists the Super Falcons are a respected side in the Women’s football and the argues that the gulf between the nations isn’t huge.
The Seleccao das Quinas and Super Falcons clash will be hosted at the Estádio José Gomes, kick-off is 7pm.
