Newsypeople – Ipswich Town has made waves in the transfer market by acquiring forward Sammie Szmodics and midfielder Kalvin Phillips, just ahead of their return to the Premier League after a 22-year hiatus.

Sammie Szmodics, who was the leading scorer in the Championship last season with 27 goals, has signed a four-year contract with Ipswich after transferring from Blackburn Rovers, with the fee reported to be approximately £9 million plus add-ons.

The 28-year-old forward shared his enthusiasm about joining Ipswich, remarking,

“It’s every kid’s dream to compete in the Premier League… I can’t wait for the upcoming season.”

Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips joins on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 28-year-old England international has had limited playing opportunities at City, having started only five Premier League matches over the past two seasons. Phillips is eager to return to action and make a meaningful impact for Ipswich, stating,

“I want to play as many games as possible and help the team win.”

Ipswich’s head coach, Kieran McKenna, emphasized Phillips’ experience and skills, noting his previous role as a crucial player for a newly-promoted Premier League side.

Both players are in line to make their debuts this Saturday as Ipswich begins their Premier League season at home against Liverpool.
