Wilfred Ndidi has agreed to join Turkish side Beşiktaş. He will sign a three-year deal with the club, plus an option for a further year.
The Nigerian has been permitted to travel for his medical in Istanbul, after which he will sign his contract and the transfer will be finalized.
The midfielder didn’t take long to make his decision to join Besiktas. The Turkish club sent a €9.5 million bid to Leicester City yesterday, which was accepted immediately.
Ndidi finds Beşiktaş’s contract offer very attractive. The prospect of playing European football and competing for the league title played a major role in his quick decision.
The growing number of his compatriots in Turkey’s top flight, also influenced him.
Victor Osimhen joined Galatasaray for €75 million, Paul Onuachu signed for Trabzonspor for €5.67 million, and Henry Onyekuru moved to Gençlerbirliği on a free transfer.
Ndidi is expected to play a key role in Beşiktaş’s season.
Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær personally pushed for the move, seeing the 28-year-old as the solution to his midfield issues.
Solskjær uses a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Ndidi set to feature as a deep-lying midfielder — the link between defense and midfield — a role he excels in.
He is also well-suited to Solskjær’s transitional style of football.
