Peter Olayinka was not in the squad for Crvena Zvezda’s 1-0 victory against Lincoln Red Imps, Tuesday, in the Champions League first-leg playoffs.
Zvezda’s head coach, Vladan Milojević, only named 10 players on the bench, two of whom were goalkeepers.
Dropping Olayinka stems from managing the player’s minutes, as the medical staff is trying to help him recover properly after coming off a long-term injury.
The match was seen as one that Crvena Zvezda would easily dominate, so not playing him was the right decision—especially considering that he played against Javor – three days prior – in the Serbian SuperLiga opening weekend.
Bruno Duarte’s goal made the difference, as Crvena Zvezda secured a 1-0 win over the Gibraltar side, Lincoln Red Imps.
Crvena Zvezda were the better side despite having Seol Young-Woo sent off for violent conduct in the 42nd minute. They had seven shots compared to Lincoln’s three.
