With just hours to go before the kickoff of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, former Super Falcons star Stella Mbachu has confidently declared that Nigeria will win every single game on their way to lifting the trophy once again.
The tournament kicks off on Saturday, July 5, with Nigeria drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. But for Mbachu — a veteran of five WAFCON tournaments and three FIFA World Cups — there’s no fear, no hesitation, only belief.
“I’m Assuring Nigerians…” – Stella Mbachu
In a message directed at Nigerian supporters, the 45-year-old former winger dismissed any notion of a threat from other teams, even acknowledging the presence of contenders like South Africa and Algeria, who are widely tipped to challenge for the title.
“I tell Nigerians, they should not be afraid of Super Falcons (of Nigeria). They should not be afraid. I’m assuring them.”
“The team is going to lift that trophy again. The girls are going to make history again. I don’t see anything challenging us.”
Mbachu, who won four WAFCON titles during her international career, said she sees no side on the continent capable of matching the strength and experience of Nigeria’s 11-time champions.
“South Africa? Algeria? “They Can’t Match Us” – Stella Mbachu
While South Africa — the defending champions — and Algeria are expected to mount serious campaigns in Morocco, Mbachu believes they simply won’t have the firepower to halt Nigeria’s march.
“I know South Africa is here, no doubt. Algeria is here, no doubt, but they have lost players too. We have already lost players too. So, there is no way that they can match us or beat us.”
This follows the expectations of many Nigerian fans who are counting on a new generation of Super Falcons led by stars like Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, and Toni Payne to restore their dominance.
No Mercy, No Draws — “Every of Our Game, We Win”
Mbachu didn’t just predict Nigeria would win the tournament. She boldly stated that the Super Falcons would not drop a single point — from the group stages to the final.
“We are winning every single game. Every of our game. Every of our game, starting from the Premier League to the Finals.”
“We are going to win all of them. We are not going to drop any points or to become champions.”
The Super Falcons open their WAFCON campaign on Friday, July 5, against Botswana, before facing Algeria and Tunisia in their remaining group games. The top two teams from each group — and two best third-placed sides — will advance to the quarterfinals.
As the 2025 WAFCON kicks off, all eyes will be on the Super Falcons to see if they can turn bold predictions into reality — and claim their 12th African crown in style.
