WAFCON2024: Super Falcons Will Keep Getting Better – Justin Madugu Assures

Nigeria’s Super Falcons interim head coach, Justin Madugu has assured that the team will continue to improve as the tournament progresses, insisting that every player in the squad remains important and will be given a fair chance to contribute.

The Super Falcons have shown signs of promise under Madugu’s leadership, and the coach has now stated that performances will continue to evolve as the competition unfolds.

“Every player is of great importance” – Coach Madugu on Super Falcons Squad

Speaking after the team’s recent match, Madugu stated the importance of squad unity, fairness in selection, and transparency in team decisions.

“Every player that is here representing the country that has made the team is equally of great importance.”

“For us, they are all our players and we try as much as possible to promote team harmony and make everybody feel relevant in the team, and nobody feels more important than the other.”

Madugu also mentioned that football is a collective sport, and decisions are always made with the team’s overall success in mind.

“The game is all about… it’s a team sport. You all make each other and so we try as much as possible to ensure that we do the right thing by being fair and transparent in all that we do.”

Selection based on merit and team need

As questions continue to be raised about rotation and player opportunities, Madugu confirmed that every player has a fair shot at getting minutes, while also indicating that underperformance will result in necessary changes for the team’s benefit.

“Everybody has an equal chance of being in the team, so whoever does well continues.
Whoever does not do well obviously because we want to do better, we have the privilege of making those changes so that we get the team going.”

The Super Falcons will continue their journey in the competition with confidence and growing cohesion, as Madugu maintains a steady hand in managing talent and fostering team spirit.

They face Algeria for their second group stage match on Thursday. A win will automatically clinch a quarterfinal spot for the girls.
