WAFCON2024: Casablanca Buzzes as Super Falcons Seek Semifinal Victory

As Nigeria’s Super Falcons prepare to face long-time rivals South Africa in the semifinals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) today, interim coach Justine Madugu shrugs off critics to focus on the team’s progress.

Ahead of the clash in Casablanca, all eyes are not just on the pitch but also on the man at the helm of the Falcons’ tactical charge.

Facing the immense expectations that come with coaching Nigeria’s most successful women’s football team, Madugu remains unshaken.

Speaking to reporters from the team’s base in Casablanca, the coach addressed growing criticism and made it clear that neither he nor his players would be swayed by outside noise.

“You Must Face Those Pressures” – Madugu to the Super Falcons

“The coaching job is a timeless job that goes with a lot of pressure,” Madugu said, taking a calm yet resolute tone.

“You must face those pressures. They will always come, because no matter what you do, you know, you always face criticisms in one area or the other.”

Coach Madugu insists the focus of the team remains solely on performance and improvement.

“For me, I just like to focus on what is ahead of me,” he continued.

“I believe in what we do. I believe in what the girls are also doing.”

“We Are Seeing the Results” – Coach Backs the Super Falcons

Under Madugu’s guidance, the Super Falcons have shown flashes of their trademark attacking flair and defensive solidity dispatching Zambia ruthlessly in the quarterfinals.

“We are seeing the results. The girls have done well. We continue and we hope that they keep it up,” Madugu added.

He stated he has faith in his squad ahead of what promises to be a fiery clash with the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
