Uche Shines with Goal and Assist in Getafe’s Season Opener

Chrisantus Uche scored a goal and provided an assist in Getafe’s first league game of the season which ended 2-0 against Celta Vigo.

Getafe broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half through Adrian Liso. Uche played a precise pass to Liso at the centre of the box, and he calmly slotted it home.

Uche secured all three points for Getafe in the 72nd minute with a left-footed shot that beat Ionut Andrei Radu in goal.

The 22-year-old’s performance was not only about his goal and assist but also his overall play.

He operated as a striker, created three chances, had eight touches in the opposition box, completed three dribbles, and made two passes into the final third.

Defensively, he was also solid. He completed 100 percent of his tackles, made four ball recoveries, and won 75 percent of his aerial duels.

Pepe Bordalás was very pleased with his side’s performance:

“We had a large number of unregistered players, so to get the win — and to do it the way we did — honestly, has tremendous merit. It’s something we should be doubly satisfied with.”

Bordalás also spoke about Getafe’s balanced and overall play:

“I think we played a very serious game. Celta is a team with tremendous attacking potential. We managed to limit them — they created very little. We attacked with belief and confidence and managed to earn a well-deserved victory.”

The 61-year-old also praised his squad’s ability to adapt to the young stars playing for the first time:

“This win has double or even triple value. There was a 17-year-old on the pitch, players making their La Liga debuts, others like Ismael who was playing in the fourth tier (Segunda RFEF), players out of position… we had to adapt, and the win is very important.”

He went further to praise Uche and expressed confidence in the Nigerian’s commitment to the club’s project:

“He is our player. We have complete confidence in him. We knew he would be important today — and he was. His level doesn’t surprise us. Right now, he’s a Getafe player and we trust that he’ll stay here.”

Uche had offers from Italy, the Premier League, and other La Liga sides this summer.

The club was even open to letting him go, as player sales were needed to bring in profit, but he decided to stay for this season.
