Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reaffirmed his desire to achieve national glory before calling time on his international career.
The experienced defender, who has led Nigeria through official competitions and played across Europe’s top leagues, says his biggest ambition remains winning the Africa Cup of Nations and representing the country at another FIFA World Cup.
Despite coming close at the 2023 AFCON, Troost-Ekong believes his mission with the national team is far from complete.

“I still want to win an AFCON. I want to play another World Cup. I’m not done yet,” he said.
The Al Kholood defender, who scored in Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON final defeat to Ivory Coast, added that people are most impressed and drawn to what he has done with the Super Eagles.
Troost-Ekong was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles were eliminated in the group stage following a late defeat to Argentina.
Now aged 31, and with the 2026 edition potentially his final opportunity on the global stage, the defender is determined to help Nigeria secure qualification and make a return to the World Cup.
