Hull City head coach, Sergej Jakirović is counting on for next season.
Ajayi joined Hull City this summer on a free transfer after his contract with West Brom expired.
Jakirović was appointed as Hull’s new manager in June, and he understands the expectations from club chairman Acun Ilıcalı — to help the club gain promotion to the Premier League.
Semi spoke highly of Jakirović in an interview with the club media. He described him as a progressive-thinking coach, someone who loves to win, hates losing, and is very competitive.
He added that the gaffer demands a lot from his players, and he is looking forward to working with him.
The Nigeria international has featured in two pre-season friendlies for Hull City — against Kasımpaşa and Stockport County.
His first competitive game of the season will be an EFL Championship clash against Coventry City.
But he will need to be at his best and maintain a high level of fitness to keep Jakirović’s trust – Anything less could affect his playing time.
Ajayi is also targeting a call-up to the Super Eagles squad for the September FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
The 31-year-old returned to the national team in May in a friendly against Ghana, where he played the full 90 minutes, after being out for nearly a year due to injury setbacks.
He was part of the team that reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
