Cruz Azul Femenil have confirmed the signing of Super Falcons forward, Uchenna Kanu, completing a major reinforcement ahead of the Clausura 2026 season.
The Nigerian international joins the Liga MX Femenil side on a free transfer following the conclusion of her spell with Racing Louisville FC in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Uchenna returns to Mexican football, where she previously enjoyed a highly successful stint with Tigres UANL.
Her move to Cruz Azul adds to the team’s growing ambition as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
A Proven Liga MX Winner Returns
Uchenna Kanu is no stranger to Liga MX Femenil. During her earlier spell with Tigres Femenil, the powerful striker established herself as one of the league’s most effective forwards, scoring 22 goals in 38 appearances.
The 28-year-old was a key contributor to Tigres’ Liga MX Femenil title triumph, earning a reputation for her physicality, intelligent movement and clinical finishing.
Her familiarity with the league and its demands played a decisive role in Cruz Azul’s pursuit, with the club keen to add a forward who combines winning experience with immediate impact potential.
Uchenna Kanu’s NWSL Chapter with Racing Louisville
Uchenna joined Racing Louisville FC in February 2023, making the switch from Tigres to the NWSL.
She spent three seasons with the Kentucky-based club, featuring regularly when fit and contributing important goals and performances.
Despite battling periods of injury, Kanu remained an influential presence within the squad.
She was part of Racing Louisville’s historic 2025 season, which saw the club reach the NWSL Play-offs for the first time in their history.
However, a knee injury curtailed her involvement during the latter stages of that campaign.
International Pedigree with the Super Falcons
At international level, Uchenna Kanu is firmly established as one of the prominent names in Nigerian women’s football.
She has represented the Super Falcons at both the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups, memorably scoring the decisive goal against co-hosts Australia at the 2023 tournament.
Kanu also featured for Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and played a key role in the Super Falcons’ run to the semi-finals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
