Nigeria’s in-form striker, Joy Omewa continues to steal the spotlight in Denmark after netting once again to help Fortuna Hjørring earn a 2–2 draw against FC Nordsjælland in a tense Danish A-Liga Round 10 clash on Saturday afternoon.
The 22-year-old forward, fresh off her maiden Super Falcons call-up for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, was once again the difference-maker for Fortuna.
She found the back of the net in the 66th minute, finishing off a well-timed run and coolly restoring her team’s lead with a precise effort inside the box.
Although Anna Walter struck later to earn a point for Nordsjælland, Omewa’s influence on the game remained unmistakable, extending her scoring streak to eight consecutive matches across all competitions.
100th Appearance for Joy Omewa
Omewa’s latest strike came just days after she featured in her 100th appearance for Fortuna Hjørring.
The Nigerian forward celebrated that achievement by scoring the winning goal in their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup victory over Vorskla Poltava earlier in the week.
From Lokoja to Hjørring – and Now to the Super Falcons
Joy Omewa started her football career from her early days at Confluence Queens in Nigeria’s NWFL Premiership to becoming one of Denmark’s most feared forwards has been remarkable.
Her consistent form finally earned her a first-ever invitation to the Nigerian women’s senior national team, as she was named in Justin Madugu’s 21-player squad for the 2026 WAFCON Qualifiers doubleheader against Benin Republic.
The striker has since joined the Super Falcons training camp in Togo, as the team continues preparations ahead of the first leg of the qualifier.
