The Super Eagles bid farewell to Fes delivering a one-sided performance in their AFCON 2025 round of 16 match against Mozambique, Monday night, at the Complexe Sportif de Fes.
A Victor Osimhen brace and goals from Ademola Lookman & Akor Adams secured Nigeria’s fourth straight win, as they close out their run in Fes and march into the last eight.
Lookman voted Man of the match, for a second time in the competition, also bagged two assists taking his goal contribution to 7 (3g, 4a) in three games.
Speaking during the post-game presser, he credited the team for an all-round performance and quickly dismissed any personal ambitions for the tournament’s Golden boot award.
The 28 year-old, who earned his 38th cap for Nigeria on the night, also played down on the on-field incident involving Osimhen.
“The team just won 4-nil. Vic is iur number one guy, everyone knows this. He’s a top striker, a top player; all of the rest of that is not really important.”

On his part Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle reiterated his ‘ambition’ to build a clinical attacking team capable of winning games and titles.
Yet, Chelle says he demands as much from the team as he does himself, insisting there’s always room for improvement.

Nigeria’s next opponent could be either Algeria or DR Congo, in the quarter-final, and the 48 year-old admits it’ll be ‘a great fight’.
The Super Eagles will head to Marrekesh on Wednesday, ahead of the team’s first game away from Fes at this AFCON and Chelle hopes their journey will continue even further.
