Jorthy Mokio has written his name into Eredivisie history, becoming the second youngest player ever to score in a Klassieker match, a milestone that places him just behind Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu.
The young Ajax forward sealed a memorable night by scoring in stoppage time to confirm a 2-0 victory, a moment that captured both composure and belief far beyond his years.
Mokio’s impressive rise
Having joined the Ajax youth system in June 2024, his development accelerated rapidly, earning him promotion to the first team under former manager Francesco Farioli, who gave him his Eredivisie debut against Fortuna Sittard on 9 February 2025.
He has 303 minutes of first team football this season. Mokio plays a centre midfielder but his versatility allows him operate as a deep lying midfielder and a left back.
Despite Mokio’s breakthrough, the record for the youngest goalscorer in a Klassieker match remains firmly held by Nwankwo Kanu.
The iconic moment dates back to 27 March 1994, when Kanu scored in an away fixture against Feyenoord, announcing himself on one of Dutch football’s biggest stages.

That goal was not just a personal triumph, but the beginning of a golden era that saw Kanu become one of Ajax’s most celebrated foreign stars.
During his time at Ajax, Nwankwo Kanu won an extraordinary collection of trophies that cemented his legacy at the club.
He lifted the Eredivisie title twice, in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons, and also won the KNVB Cup in the 1992/93 campaign.
