Eric Chelle addressed Nigeria’s finishing concerns in his post-match press conference following their 1-0 win over Rwanda in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles coach responded to criticism about his team’s narrow victory.
Chelle stressed that while the team creates plenty of opportunities, they must become sharper in converting them.
“If we win, some people are not happy because of the way we play. But in reality, we had a lot of chances to score goals and I think we need a little something – confidence.
“Before this game, there was a lot of pressure on these guys. Of course, if we had finished with three or four goals, everyone would be satisfied. But football doesn’t always work like that.

“We may have only one or two training sessions before the next game, and if we win by a goal against South Africa, we’ll be happy. Still, we must be more efficient and clinical in front of goal.”

The 47-year-old also defended his decision to start 20-year-old Benjamin Fredericks ahead of captain William Troost-Ekong in defence.
“It’s my choice, and I don’t want to explain my choice. The most important thing is the three points,” Chelle stated.
The central defensive pairing of Fredericks and Calvin Bassey surprised many, but the youngster impressed, showing composure on the ball and effectively keeping the Rwandan attack led by Aly-Enzo Hamon quiet.
His performance attracted praises from Many Nigerians.
