Singida Black Stars Clear Amas Obasogie of Match-Fixing Allegations

Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars SC has officially cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation.

Full Statement:

“Singida Black Stars Club would like to inform the public that there was concern among the management, fans, and stakeholders following repeated mistakes in some recent games, including against Flambeau du Centre (CAF Confederation Cup), Pamba Jiji, and Namungo FC (NBC Premier League).

After reviewing the incidents in question, considering the player’s defence, and receiving clarification from the club’s General Manager, the investigation found no evidence linking Amas Obasogie to match‑fixing.

The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game. Player Amas Obasogie has apologised for the circumstances that gave rise to these interpretations and has promised to work on the shortcomings that emerged to improve his level and restore the trust of fans and stakeholders.

In light of this, the Club has decided to reverse the previous decision to suspend the player for three months, and the player has been allowed to continue his duties with the team.”

Obasogie had initially been suspended for three months, missing key fixtures including the match against Coastal Union and the derby against Young Africans.

Meanwhile, with the suspension lifted, he is now expected to start in goal when Singida Black Stars face Simba SC on March 11th.

The reversal of the suspension is a relief for Obasogie and his camp, as regular playing time will enhance his chances of remaining in contention for the Nigerian national team.
