Semi Ajayi Leads Hull City’s Comeback Win With First Goal of the Season

Semi Ajayi delivered an headlining performance on Saturday as Hull City came from behind to seal a crucial 2–1 victory over Stoke City in the Championship.

The Nigerian centre-back scored his first goal of the season, inspiring a spirited second-half turnaround for the Tigers.

Stoke City struck first through Sorba Thomas, who fired the hosts ahead in the 17th minute. Hull struggled to find rhythm in the first half, but came back revitalised after the interval.

Just three minutes into the second half, Ajayi rose highest from a set piece to produce a powerful finish in the 48th minute, drawing Hull level and shifting momentum firmly in their favour.

The comeback was completed shortly after when Joe Gelhardt found the net, giving Hull a well-deserved lead and eventually all three points.

Semi Ajayi Produced A Man-of-the-Match Masterclass

Ajayi didn’t just score, he dominated. The defender delivered one of his finest performances since joining Hull City:

His leadership, defensive intelligence, and aerial strength earned him the man of the match award, crowning his performance that combined both solidity at the back and decisive attacking contribution.

Since arriving at Hull, Ajayi has dealt with recurring hamstring issues, limiting his rhythm and consistency. This standout display signals a strong return to full fitness and a reminder of what he can offer when fully sharp.

His goal and defensive reliability strengthens his value to the team as he pushes to cement a regular starting spot.

Semi Ajayi Prepares for the Super Eagles and Eric Chelle

Ajayi’s resurgence comes at an important moment for the Nigerian defender ahead of the 2025 AFCON. With competition fierce for places in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad, consistent performances like this will strengthen his case for national team inclusion.

If he can remain injury-free, Ajayi’s experience, composure, and physical dominance make him a strong asset for both Hull City and Nigeria.
