Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting General Secretary of the CAF, marking a historic milestone as the first Nigerian to occupy the position since the body’s establishment.
His appointment was approved during the CAF Congress held at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo.
Adamu’s elevation follows the exit of Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down after surpassing CAF’s mandatory retirement age of 63.
The Swiss-Congolese lawyer, now 66, concluded his tenure after years of service to African football’s governing body.

Before this appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing the planning, logistics, and successful execution of major continental competitions.
His experience in managing high-profile football events across Africa positioned him as a strong candidate for the top administrative role.
As Acting General Secretary, Adamu will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of CAF.
