Rasheedat Ajibade Dedicates 10th WAFCON Title to Nigerians

Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a passionate and emotional speech, dedicating the team’s historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title to all Nigerians, especially young girls across the country.

Her remarks came during a special reception hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honor the team following their hard-fought 3–2 victory over Morocco in the final.

Ajibade, who led by example throughout the tournament, used the opportunity to express gratitude to the President and key government figures, while also issuing a rallying call for more investment in women’s football in Nigeria.

 Rasheedat Ajibade Calls for a New Era in Nigerian Women’s Football

In her address, Ajibade, the WAFCON Player of the Tournament, highlighted the importance of the WAFCON triumph and envisioned a future where the Super Falcons would not only continue to dominate Africa but also become a global powerhouse in women’s football.

“As we celebrate this 10th WAFCON title, let it be a spark that ignites a new era for Nigerian women’s football.”

“Let us unite as government, football federation, players, citizen and diaspora in a shared vision to make the Super Falcons not just African proud, but world standard. Together, we can achieve greatness that echoes for generations.”

Gratitude to the Presidency and Supporters

Ajibade took time to sincerely appreciate the presence and encouragement of President Tinubu, ministers, and Nigerians across the globe who stood by the team throughout the tournament.

“Thank you so much, sir, his excellency, for this honor. Thank you, ministers that have come to cheer from the first day and your messages were seen and your support were instrumental to our victory in this tournament.”

Capping off her speech, Ajibade reassured the President and all Nigerians that the Super Falcons were determined to soar even higher in the years ahead.

Nigeria’s Record-Breaking Achievement

Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Morocco, handing the host their second consecutive final loss, to clinch their record-extending 10th WAFCON title and also, cementing their status as the most successful team on the continent.

The tournament victory also ensured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
