President Tinubu Approves Nigeria’s 2030 Commonwealth Games Bid

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has called on the Commonwealth to make history by bringing the 2030 Commonwealth Games to Nigeria.

In a message shared via his official X account, Tinubu stated that awarding the centenary edition of the Games to Nigeria would send a strong signal of inclusion and unity across the Commonwealth.

“For 100 years, the Commonwealth Games have never been staged on African soil. By bringing the Centenary Games to Nigeria in 2030, you will send a powerful message that every region of the Commonwealth matters, and that Africa is not only part of the story but central to its future,” Tinubu wrote.

He positioned the continent as the next stage for the global sporting spectacle.

“Nigeria is the gateway. Africa is the stage. The Commonwealth is the family. Let us make history together in 2030. Let us complete the circle of Commonwealth unity,” he stated.

The President concluded with a rallying call: “The dream must be realized. The time is now.”

If successful, Nigeria would become the first African nation to host the Games since their inception in 1930.
