Onyedika Shines in Club Brugge’s win over RB Salzburg

Raphael Onyedika completed the full 90 minutes in Club Brugge’s 1-0 win over RB Salzburg in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.

Romeo Vermant 75th minute goal made the difference as Club Brugge won 1-0, he was assisted by Bjorn Meijer.

Onyedika impressed in midfield, completing 80% of his passes and making a crucial block to prevent a goal.

Simon Mignolet stood out, making five key saves to keep Club Brugge’s advantage . Salzburg dominated with 20 shots but failed to convert their chances.

Following the win, Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen praised his team’s defensive performance:

“Defensively, we were well-organized and didn’t give away too many chances while also trying to create our own. The lack of depth in our game is something we need to work on, but we’re dealing with it as we don’t have all our players fit yet. In the end, this 1-0 win is a good result, especially after last Friday’s performance. Overall, we did quite well today.”

Club Brugge will host RB Salzburg for the second leg at the Jan Breydel Stadium on August 12. Speaking ahead of the fixture, the coach stated :

“Now we have to finish the job at home next week. It won’t be easy—Salzburg’s intensity is hard to match—but we hold the advantage. We just have to play our game.”
