Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has revealed how a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through at the very last minute during his early years in football.
Aina, who was trialing with Spurs at the time, said he was told the club would sign him after a training session.
“I was at Spurs on trial and they said they were going to sign me after training on Monday,” Aina recalled.
“So I went into the office with my dad, and they asked us to wait while they got the documents ready. One hour passed, then two. We hadn’t eaten, I was getting hungry. We waited for five hours. Eventually, my dad got fed up and we walked out.”
That twist of fate eventually led Aina to Chelsea, where he signed as an under-11 player in 2007.
He rose through the ranks of the academy and made his senior debut under Antonio Conte in a 2016 Carabao Cup clash against Bristol Rovers.
Aina later gained valuable experience during loan spells at Hull City and Torino, before making a permanent move to the Serie A side.
