Ola Aina Delighted to Return After Long Injury layoff

Nigeria defender Ola Aina says he feels ‘amazing’ to be back to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines and is determined to stay healthy for the rest of the season.

The full back recently returned to action following a serious hamstring injury sustained while on international duty in September 2025.

Aina was forced off just 10 minutes into Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier draw against South Africa on September 9 and later underwent surgery on the injury.

Speaking about his return, the 29 year-old said being back around his team has lifted him after months of hard work away from matchday football.

“It feels amazing being back. I have been excited, I was really looking forward to being back in the matchday squad with the team and around everything,” Aina said.

“It has been really good for me. I am just ready to be strong and healthy for the rest of the season, God willing.”

Aina was sidelined for around three to four months, with Forest taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation.

Despite returning to light training on grass in late November, his competitive comeback was delayed until January to ensure a full recovery.

He also reflected on the discipline required during his rehabilitation.

“A typical day was just waking up and working my socks off in the gym, in physio, on the pitch, doing runs and trying to eat right,” he added. “That was basically the same routine for the last four months.”

Aina made his return to competitive action against Aston Villa on January 3, 2026, and has since featured in three matches.
