Odemwingie Slams ‘Incompetent’ NFF for Shaming Players in World Cup Report

Former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie has condemned the NFF for their treatment of Cyril Dessers and William Troost-Ekong.

An NFF match report following the 1-1 draw against South Africa in Bloemfontein threw both players under the bus.

Reacting to the situation, Odemwingie described the report as unprofessional, emphasizing that it shows football in Nigeria is run by incompetent people.

“It is a sign that wrong people are working in our federation, it’s very unprofessional,” He said on Brila FM’s breakfast show ‘No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze’.

He continued: “These are people that work in certain positions without the required qualification.”

“They are just like fans — you can give that job to ordinary fans and he will probably do a job as good as that person has done.

“It’s very unprofessional, and wrong. This is a problem when things get serious and get to international level, you can’t act like a bush man.

“These people just acted like people from the tree, not really as an organization that has aspirations to take Nigerian football to the next level.”

Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup Hope Chances look bleak

Osazie Odemwingie, who featured at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, also said Nigeria has what it takes to play for the trophy.

“You know Nigerians, we have what it takes to get to the World Cup final, not the AFCON only. If we are to step up higher, everything must be ready for that step forward — but we are still talking about things like this.

“It’s a shame because we look childish and this isn’t the time to pick on any player. You know the players have a legacy, it’s not time to start looking for a scapegoat.

“The reason why we are like this is way bigger than the performance of one or two players.”

He concluded by making a sarcastic joke to calm the air down. “I am a kind guy these days. On the day wey I dey vex, na red card straight.”

Odemwingie earned 65 international caps for Nigeria, including appearances in two FIFA World Cups.
