Nottingham Forest Snap Up Goal Machine Joy Omewa on Permanent Deal

Nottingham Forest Women have completed the signing of Nigeria international, Joy Omewa from Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring, securing the prolific forward on a permanent contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old arrives in England with an impressive scoring pedigree and a growing reputation as one of the most clinical forwards to emerge from Scandinavia in recent seasons.

Omewa joins Forest after a highly successful five-year spell with Fortuna Hjørring, where she scored over 50 goals in all competitions and played a central role in the club’s domestic dominance.

Her achievements in Denmark include:

  • Two Danish Women’s Cup titles

  • Kvindeligaen league title (2024/25)

  • Danish Women’s League Player of the Season (2024/25)

During that award-winning campaign, Omewa finished as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals and four assists in just 23 matches.

This season, she has continued that form on the continental stage, netting three goals in four UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers, while also contributing in Europa Cup matches for Fortuna Hjørring.

From Nigeria to Europe: Joy Omewa’s Rise

Omewa’s football journey began in Nigeria, where she featured at youth level for Osun Babes before moving on to Confluence Queens.

In 2021, she made the switch to Europe, joining Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93) in Denmark, where she scored three goals in nine appearances.

Later that year, she signed for Fortuna Hjørring, a move that proved pivotal in her development and established her as a reliable goalscorer at the highest level of Danish women’s football.

Forest Delighted as Davies Hails ‘Dynamic Forward’

Nottingham Forest Women, head coach Carly Davies is delighted at securing the Nigerian forward, highlighting Omewa’s instinctive finishing and winning mentality.

Forest confirmed the move in an official statement, describing Omewa as a forward who brings experience, quality and a proven record of success as the club targets a strong finish in Women’s Super League 2.

Timely Boost for Forest’s Promotion Push

Nottingham Forest Women currently sit sixth in WSL2, level on points with Newcastle United, and face a challenging run of fixtures against promotion contenders Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic.

Omewa’s arrival is viewed as a timely boost as Forest look to climb the table and strengthen their push for a strong end to the season.

She also becomes the latest Nigerian player associated with Nottingham Forest, following the presence of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi in the club’s men’s team.
