NK Celje Announce Signing of Super Eagles Midfielder

NK Celje have confirmed the signing of Papa Daniel Mustapha on a three-year deal from Nigerian Premier Football League side Niger Tornadoes.

In past years, several young talents have made the move from the Nigerian league to European football.

The likes of Brown Ideye, Umar Sadiq, Mikel Obi, and Vincent Enyeama have moved from smaller leagues to top European clubs.

Recently a new name joins that list — Papa Daniel Mustapha.

Born on January 1, 2002, Mustapha plays as a central midfielder and has signed a contract with Slovenian side NK Celje until June 30, 2028. The club announced the deal on its official website:

“Celje Football Club announces that it has reached an agreement with the Nigerian Premier League club Niger Tornadoes for the transfer of defensive midfielder Papa Daniel.

“The 23-year-old Nigerian international has signed a contract with NK Celje until 30.6.2028.”

Mustapha received a call-up to the Super Eagles squad in March for matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but did not feature.

He eventually earned his first and only cap during the Unity Cup competition in June.

Last season, Mustapha made 21 appearances for Niger Tornadoes, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

NK Celje finished 4th in the Slovenian Prva Liga last season, earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League playoff round.
