NFF to Convene General Assembly for Statute Amendments

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has assured that a General Assembly will be convened regarding the federation’s statutes.

The statutes, which define the NFF’s structure, membership, and decision-making processes, have not been amended since 2010.

Gusau confirmed that initial consultations with FIFA officials have already begun, marking the first step in the reform process.

“Sometimes people try not to look at things the way they are. We have started the process of amending our statutes. It’s a process; it’s not something you do overnight,” Gusau stated.

According to the NFF president, the decision to embark on the reform became necessary to address long-standing complaints about Nigerian football administration.

However, he stressed that certain provisions will remain untouched due to FIFA’s strict global regulations.

“Since 2010, these statutes have not been amended. We had a seminar with FIFA representatives about two days ago, where we identified areas that could be amended. Of course, there are areas of governance and ethics that FIFA will not allow anyone to alter because of their importance to football administration,” Gusau explained.

He added that discussions with FIFA have been constructive and expressed optimism that the process will soon be completed.

“We had a very good conversation, and the process is ongoing. By the grace of God, we will call for an extraordinary Congress where we will look at the document holistically and make the necessary amendments,” he concluded.

Gusau confirmed that the General Assembly will be convened in the coming months.
