Nathan Tella has returned to training after nearly a month out due to injury.
Tella picked up a knee injury on September 12, 2025, during his side’s 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen confirmed Tella’s recovery on their official social media account, posting a picture of the Nigeria international training with the ball at his feet.
This is the first public sign of his return since the injury occurred.
So far, Tella has missed Leverkusen’s last five matches and has had limited opportunities to impress head coach Kasper Hjulmand.
In his absence, Ernest Poku has been deployed in the number ten role and is currently benefitting from the extra playing time.
With the international break underway, Tella is using the time to continue his recovery and hopes to reach full fitness in time for Bayer Leverkusen’s upcoming match against Mainz on October 18.
The injury has also affected Tella’s involvement with the Nigerian national team.
He missed Nigeria’s last two matches against Rwanda and South Africa in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 26-year-old is also expected to miss the final two qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

Nathan Tella last featured for the Super Eagles on May 31 in a Unity Cup friendly against Jamaica in London, where he registered an assist.
His return to fitness will be closely watched by both Leverkusen and Nigerian fans as he works his way back to match readiness.
