Nantes are finalizing a deal for Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem.
The club has reached an agreement with MLS side Colorado Rapids to sign the player for €1.5 million.
Awaziem is impressed with Nantes’ project and has already agreed to a three-year contract with the club.
His medical is expected to take place soon, and his official unveiling is set for this week.
This will be Awaziem’s second stint with Nantes. He played for the French club during the 2017/2018 season.
The 28-year-old is a well-travelled player; he has played in Turkey, Croatia, Nigeria, Portugal, the United States of America, and Spain.
Awaziem comes with a whole lot of experience on the international stage. He has 33 caps for Nigeria.
He was named in the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, and the 2019 and 2021 African Cup of Nations.
The 27-year-old plays as a center-back. He made 22 appearances in all competitions for Colorado Rapids last season.
Awaziem’s stats were impressive: he had 91% pass accuracy, gave 72% accurate long balls, he wasn’t dispossessed throughout, he was only dribbled past once, and had 75% accurate duels.
The addition of Awaziem to the Nantes squad will give the team security defensively.
The team conceded 52 goals last season and finished three points off the relegation zone.
