Coach of Wikki Tourists, Abdu Maikaba, has called on the NFF to consider setting up a permanent home-based Super Eagles.
He suggested that this should be part of efforts to avoid a repeat of the country’s poor outing
at the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Speaking in a chat with Brila.net, the former national youth team assistant coach stressed that
consistent preparation and the regular assembly of the best players from the NPFL would strengthen the Super Eagles’ domestic contingent.
“NFF should give good time for the preparation of such a team,” the Coach said.
“They should even be doing it not just because of a competition, but from time to time form a home-based national team, play friendly games, and then disband them continuously,” he stated.

According to Maikaba, this approach will help coaches and technical crew identify top talents
in the domestic league and build a more cohesive side that can represent Nigeria effectively
at continental tournaments.
He added that waiting until the eve of major competitions to camp players has often denied
Nigeria the opportunity to forge the chemistry and tactical understanding crucial for success.
Maikaba concluded that a regular home-based structure would provide a clear pathway for
league players to step up to the national team.
