Kelechi Iheanacho Reunites with Rodgers at Celtic

Celtic has completed the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract with an option of a further year.

Iheanacho’s move to Celtic was orchestrated by Brendan Rodgers, Iheanacho’s former manager at Leicester City.

The Nigerian joined Celtic just two days after his contract with Sevilla was terminated.

He had spent only one season at the Spanish club and failed to make an impact, making just 11 appearances.

Iheanacho spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he featured in 15 games and scored only one goal.

Iheanacho’s move to Celtic gives him the chance to revive his career, especially under a manager like Rodgers who trusts him.

The striker won the FA Cup and Community Shield under the Scotsman, scoring 43 goals during Rodgers’ time at Leicester.

His best individual season came in 2020/2021, when he scored 19 goals in all competitions. Iheanacho is expected to lead Celtic’s attack after the club sold Adam Idah to Swansea City for £6 million.

The Nigerian will compete in the Scottish Premiership, domestic cups, and the Europa League with Celtic.

A strong goal-scoring run across the three competitions could put him back in contention for the Super Eagles after recently losing his spot.

With the Africa Cup of Nations coming up in December and the World Cup next year, this move is a perfect opportunity for Iheanacho to convince Eric Chelle that he deserves a place in the Nigerian national team.
