International Women’s Day: Give to Gain — Brila Media Celebrates Women Building for the future of women in sports

Today, March 8, as the world marks International Women’s Day, Brila Media celebrates the women shaping the future of sport across Africa. Under the theme “Give to Gain: Women Building for the Future of Women in Sports,” Brila highlights leaders, innovators, and advocates who are expanding opportunities for women in every corner of the sports ecosystem.

Through media coverage, advocacy, and initiatives, Brila demonstrates its commitment to inclusion, visibility, and empowerment across the industry.

Central to Brila’s celebration is the work of Debbie Izamoje Okolie, CEO of Brila Media Group and founder of Football for Girls Africa, an initiative helping young girls explore diverse careers in football by promoting inclusivity.

Debbie’s vision embodies the spirit of this year’s theme: giving to gain by creating spaces where girls can see themselves as part of the sports industry and future leaders.

Brila also shines a spotlight on other women whose achievements reflect the impact Brila seeks to amplify.

In Ghana, Rachel Ankomah is pioneering women’s rugby league through her academy and advocacy campaigns. Nancy Damhindi is expanding access to American football, training girls as players and women as coaches and referees.

Simidele Adeagbo, Nigeria’s first Winter Olympian, translates her Olympic breakthroughs into mentorship and leadership programs for young female athletes. Debola Adebanjo uses media and storytelling to ensure women’s accomplishments in sport are recognised and celebrated globally.

Through its platforms and initiatives, Brila Media underscores that advancing women in sport is about long-term impact, not fleeting recognition.

By amplifying stories, initiatives, and achievements, the company continues to create pathways for inclusion, leadership, and systemic change in African sport.

This International Women’s Day, Brila Media celebrates leadership, progress, and the women who inspire change. By highlighting their contributions, Brila ensures that sport continues to evolve, welcoming every girl, every voice, and every future leader.
