Girona Target Nigeria international Sadiq Umar

Sadiq Umar has been deemed surplus to requirements by Sergio Francisco at Real Sociedad, making him a strong candidate to leave the club.

The Nigerian forward spent the final six months of last season on loan at Villarreal, where he made 19 appearances and scored six goals.

Sadiq has endured a difficult spell at Real Sociedad since joining in the summer of 2022 for a fixed fee of €20 million plus €6 million in add-ons.

His time at the club has been affected by injuries, which forced him to miss 47 matches. He has played a total of 50 games for the Basque side, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Girona are showing interest in Sadiq.

Real Sociedad would prefer a permanent transfer or a loan deal that includes a mandatory buy option clause.

Girona are currently in the market for an experienced striker as they look to sell Bojan Miovski who is no longer part of Michel’s plans.

However, Sadiq reportedly favors a move to Valencia, where he hopes to reunite with Carlos Corberán.

The Nigerian is also fond of the city, but Valencia have yet to submit a substantial offer to Real Sociedad.
