Getafe president, Ángel Torres has confirmed that Chrisantus Uche is set to leave the club, he said that the sale is necessary as the club relies heavily on player sales.
The 73 year-old Getafe owner said:
“We have to sell. We are ruining La Liga by continuously selling. I am forced to sell him, I have no other choice. Tomorrow he undergoes the medical and the deal will be signed with Wolves.”
Getafe has issues with registering players, they weren’t able to field all of their players for the first league game of the season against Celta Vigo.
As a result, the club needs to sell a player to lower their spending in order to register other players under La Liga’s financial rules.
Speaking on the possibility of the player’s move, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas, expressed his frustration.
He said:
“Let’s hope he doesn’t leave. I’m against him leaving; he’s a very important player, and this becomes more difficult every day. We can’t start from scratch every season, without knowing the squad we’ll have.

“If Uche leaves, we have a very serious problem. I understand the situation, but we can’t be at the mercy of selling a player as important as Uche.”
“For us he’s a fundamental part of our offence, and losing him would be a major issue.” He added
Jose Bordalas has been Getafe ‘s manager since April 2023, his first stint was in 2016 when he led the club to La Liga.
Two seasons later he helped them finish fifth qualifying for the UEFA Europa League, their biggest achievement till date.
Meanwhile, Torres who has been Getafe’s President following his purchase of the club since 2002.
The Spanish Businessman saw the club’s promotion on numerous occasions through shrewd managerial appointments and recruitment of players.
Ángel Torres has been critical of La Liga financial restrictions which he claimed have forced him to sell a lot of key players.
Getafe’s highest player sales remains Enes Unal for €16.50m and Marc Cucurella for €18m; they were sold to Bournemouth and Brighton respectively.
