It is no secret that Galatasaray has been keen on Victor Osimhen returning to the club after his fantastic loan spell last year.
Osimhen scored 37 goals and provided eight assists last season, breaking the record for the foreign player with the most goals in the Turkish calendar.
Osimhen gave his green light to Galatasaray, which made the Turkish side open talks with Napoli. The discussion took place for a long time—approximately three weeks to a month.
Galatasaray brought a bid lower than Napoli’s €75m valuation, which was turned down immediately.
The club eventually met Napoli’s demand and promised to pay in five installments, but Napoli outrightly rejected.
During the long period of negotiations, the Galatasaray delegation, headed by the club’s vice president Abdullah Kavukçu, promised not to return to Istanbul without completing the deal for Osimhen. After a long back-and-forth, it took a fifth offer before an agreement was reached.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray will pay €40m immediately and €35m in one year, plus 10% on a future sale and a goals-based bonus.
Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba reported that Osimhen rejected two top European clubs and Saudi Pro League sides to return to Galatasaray.
There is jubilation in Turkey by Galatasaray fans and even rival supporters, as they believe that Osimhen will add color to the league.
The deal is regarded as the biggest in Turkish football history.
