The diversity, equality, and inclusivity-promoting Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium served as its inspiration.
According to Stefan Van Loock, a spokesman for Belgium, FIFA banned the shirt due to its commercial ties to the festival and not because it featured the traditional rainbow colors associated with the LGBTQ community.
According to Mr. Van Loock, the squad’s warm-up clothing was also disapproved because of references to Tomorrowland.
Despite assurances from Qatari and FIFA officials that spectators would be permitted to wear rainbow items and wave flags, fans and members of the media claim that their possession of such goods has been seized.
Following Monday’s Wales vs. USA game, Wales supporter Laura McAllister, who ran for the FIFA council last year, tweeted about her experience.
