Nigerian midfielder, Onuche Ogbelu delivered a strong performance for Esperance de Tunis at the FIFA Club World Cup, starting all three matches for the Tunisian side.
Operating as a defensive midfielder, Ogbelu impressed with his composure and efficiency.
He recorded 0.07 expected assists, completed 91 successful passes with an 87.5% pass accuracy, and achieved an 83.3% success rate in long balls.
The 22-year-old had 133 touches, won five fouls, and completed 33.3% of his dribbles.
Defensively, he was only dribbled past three times, made 17 ball recoveries, committed just six fouls, and posted a 46.2% duel success rate along with a 50% tackle success rate.
He was not dispossessed throughout the tournament, received only one yellow card, and did not see red.
A product of Nigeria’s football ecosystem, Ogbelu began his career at Fosla Academy before moving to NPFL side Nasarawa United. In September 2023, he signed a three-year deal with ES Tunis.
Ogbelu is also a former Nigeria youth international. He represented the country at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, helping the team finish third.
In February 2023, he was among the U-20 players selected to train with the Super Eagles ahead of their AFCON qualifiers.
