Father O’Connell Science College (Niger State) and Government Secondary School (Abuja) have been crowned champions in the male and female categories of the 25th Nestlé Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship held at the National Stadium, Lagos, on Thursday.
Father O’Connell secured a dramatic 66-64 overtime win against Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, Yenagoa, Bayelsa—claiming their first national title after back-to-back losses in 2023 and 2024.
In the girls’ final, GSS Karu outclassed Lanreleke Academy, Ile-Ogbo, Osun State, 55-42, to clinch their maiden championship crown.
Victoria Dike (GSS Karu) and Levi Samuel (Father O’Connell) were named MVPs in the female and male categories respectively.
The tournament also featured cultural parades and inclusive events for young people with disabilities, celebrating diversity and grassroots development.
Nestlé Milo Category Manager, Ifeanyi Orabuche, hailed the event as a legacy of resilience, values, and youth empowerment.
“The championship teaches teamwork and how to handle both victory and defeat,” she said. “We’re focused on democratizing sports and making it accessible to every child across Nigeria.”
