Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan has dismissed concerns that recent allegations of fund misappropriation against the NFF could derail the Super Eagles’ focus ahead of their World Cup qualification playoffs.
Speaking with Brila.net, Akpan emphasized that the current squad fully understands the task at hand; reaching the World Cup, which he described as the ultimate achievement in a footballer’s career.
He pointed to the team’s recent dominant performance against Benin Republic as evidence of their unwavering commitment and unity.
“I don’t think this NFF scandal involving the misappropriation of funds will be a problem. Why? Because there’s something I want everyone to know — I believe every Super Eagles player understands the importance of going to work,” Akpan stated.

“So, going to work as a player for your country is a big deal. I would say that’s the highest level of football. And I believe the Super Eagles players showed that in the game against Benin Republic that day.
“If they keep that spirit, trust me, they will beat Gabon. But it’s not going to be a walkover, because Gabon also want it.”
Akpan urged the team to replicate the intensity and cohesion they displayed in their victory over Benin Republic.
He acknowledged Gabon’s determination, noting that the Panthers will be equally motivated to secure a spot at the global showpiece.
