William Troost-Ekong’s own goal proved decisive as Al-Kholood suffered a 3-2 defeat to NEOM SC in their Saudi Pro League clash.
Despite a spirited performance from the Nigerian defender, his side could not avoid a narrow loss.
Kevin N’Doram and Ramiro Enrique were on target for Al-Kholood, while NEOM’s Said Benrahma scored twice to lead his team to victory.
Former Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette provided an assist, contributing to NEOM’s attacking display.
Although the own goal overshadowed the result, Troost-Ekong’s overall performance was solid.
The Super Eagles captain completed 42 passes, including four into the final third, and delivered seven accurate long balls.
He completed all his dribbles successfully, was not dispossessed throughout the match, and showed composure in possession.
Defensively, he registered two tackles, six clearances, and three ball recoveries while also winning every ground duel he contested.

It was a well-rounded display from the centre back despite the unfortunate moment.
This was Troost-Ekong’s second game in three days.
He played 120 minutes in Al-Kholood’s recent King’s Cup fixture against Al-Najma before featuring again in this league match.
The 30-year-old has now made 12 appearances for both club and country so far this season, continuing to prove his fitness and leadership since returning from injury earlier in the year.
For Al-Kholood, the loss sees them drop to ninth place in the Saudi Pro League standings.
It marks their fourth defeat in 11 games across all competitions, they will want to return to winning ways as they face Al Qadsiah in their next fixture.
