Bayer Leverkusen are looking to move Victor Boniface in the final hours of the transfer window.
Werder Bremen have shown interest in the Nigerian forward, opening talks with both Bayer Leverkusen and the player’s representatives.
It remains unclear whether the deal will go through, but Bremen are making an effort to secure his signature.
Werder Bremen want to bring Boniface in on loan as they remain short in attack, with only Marco Grüll and Justin Njinmah operating as the centre forward.
The club feels the need to add a new striker, especially after a difficult start to the season.
Bremen have failed to win any of their matches so far, having been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, lost their opening Bundesliga fixture 4-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt, and played out a 3-3 draw this weekend.
Boniface was close to leaving Leverkusen earlier this summer, with AC Milan reaching an agreement for his transfer.
However, the deal collapsed after the Italian club’s medical team reportedly advised against it.
The striker has yet to feature for Bayer Leverkusen this season and was also dropped from Eric Chelle’s latest Super Eagles squad.
Should a move to Bremen materialize, it could provide Boniface with the opportunity to revive his career.
