Newsypeople- Coco Gauff, the third seed and 2022 Roland Garros runner-up, displayed remarkable resilience to secure her place in the French Open fourth round.

Gauff, an American, faced a challenging match against Dayana Yastremska, the 30th seed, who had previously caused upsets in the tournament.

Despite Yastremska’s unpredictable play, Gauff maintained her composure and ultimately triumphed 6-2, 6-4 in 94 minutes.

Gauff began strongly, capitalizing on Yastremska’s inconsistencies to win the first set swiftly. She gained an early break in the second set before Yastremska rallied, serving with renewed vigor.

Despite Yastremska’s improved performance, Gauff extended her lead to a double break. However, she encountered difficulties in serving out the match, committing three double faults in her final service games. Nonetheless, Gauff capitalized on Yastremska’s waning energy to secure victory.

Coco Gauff acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that she might face a tough test against her next opponent, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who had already defeated two seeded players in the tournament.

Cocciaretto, an Italian, impressed with her tenacity, having come out on top in a grueling three-setter against 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and delivering another impressive performance against 17th seed Liudmila Samsonova.

At 23, Cocciaretto became the youngest Italian woman to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros since Francesca Schiavone in 2001.

Gauff’s victory marked her 50th career Grand Slam win, a milestone achieved less than five years after her breakout run at Wimbledon in 2019. She will meet Cocciaretto in the fourth round, with the possibility of facing top seed Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals.
