CHAN Eagles Star Eager to Replicate Falcons, D’Tigress Successes

CHAN Eagles captain, Nduka Junior spoke about the team’s motivation to win the African Nations Championship, following the championship triumphs of Super Falcons and D’Tigress.

Nduka said in a press conference ahead of the opening CHAN group game against holders, Senegal.

“Our female team has just won the WAFCON, and our women’s basketball team won the Afrobasket title. It’s a good record for the country, and we hope to build on that.”

The CHAN Eagles understand that bringing the trophy home won’t only secure the $3.5 million prize money from CAF for the tournament winner, but could also lead to additional rewards from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu has previously awarded cash prizes to both the Super Falcons and D’Tigress for their recent triumphs — $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical staff, national honours (OON) for all team members, and a plot of land or a three-bedroom apartment for each player and staff member.

The players understand that only winning the trophy can bring such rewards — not finishing as runners-up.

It is seen as a life-changing opportunity, and the boys are prepared to give their all in the tournament.

The most used word in the dressing room ahead of the opening game against Senegal is “victory.”
