CHAN Eagles Set for Final Test Ahead of Squad Announcement

The Super Eagles B Team intensified preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a training session on Monday evening.

With the tournament fast approaching, head coach Eric Chelle is expected to unveil the final squad today.

The competition is scheduled to take place across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda this August.

As part of their build-up, the team is reportedly set to face Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Ikorodu City, in a friendly match this evening at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

The fixture is regarded as the final opportunity for players to stake a claim for a spot in the squad.

An initial 35-man provisional list was released earlier this month, but it has since been trimmed to 28.

Five players were dropped after completing moves abroad, rendering them ineligible for the home-based tournament.

Defender Ifeanyi Onyebuchi was ruled out due to injury, while Ebenezer Harcourt is unavailable owing to his commitments with the U20 national team.

Nigeria will be making their fourth appearance at CHAN, having missed the last two editions in 2020 and 2022.

Their best finish came in 2018, when they finished as runners-up to host nation Morocco, who won the final 4–0.

This year marks the Super Eagles B Team’s return to the tournament after a seven-year absence.
