CHAN Eagles star Tochukwu Michael has spoke about his time under head coach Eric Chelle and the team’s expectations heading into the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Michael is a central midfielder, but can also operate as a defensive midfielder when needed.
The 21-year-old featured in 34 matches last season, scoring twice and providing four assists in Remo Stars’ run to the NPFL title.
He described Chelle as a great coach and someone who understands football, and how much the players want to return home with the CHAN trophy:
“For being my first time, it has been a great experience—from my coaches down to my teammates. It has been a great feeling for me.
“We had a couple of good players as well, so it’s a competition—every man for himself—but I have a great feeling that I have so much to offer.
“I’m looking forward to many things, especially the team. I really want us to have one mind, one spirit, with the goal of winning the CHAN. We are more focused on the team bond. I can’t play alone—it’s an 11-man game. I believe in everyone, and I believe that positive spirit will take us far.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. Coach Chelle isn’t a difficult person; he’s a very good coach in my opinion because he understands and speaks football. If you have understanding, you’ll see that he is a quality coach.
“As much as we want to win the trophy, our opponents want it too, but it’s about who wants it more. It’s a privilege to be chosen among many. Few were selected, and we are ready to give our all to bring home the gold medal at the end of the day.”
