Boniface Shines as Werder Bremen Edge Wolfsburg 2-1

Werder Bremen came from behind to defeat Wolfsburg 2-1 in a dramatic Bundesliga clash at the Weserstadion.

The visitors took the lead in the 28th minute through Mattias Svanberg, and Bremen spent much of the game chasing an equaliser before finding their breakthrough late on.

Jens Stage brought the home side level in the 83rd minute after sustained pressure, setting up a tense finish.

The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time when substitutes Victor Boniface and Samuel Mbangula combined brilliantly to seal the win.

A looping ball reached Boniface in the box and the forward produced an acrobatic bicycle kick that found Mbangula on the right side.

The winger volleyed past Kamil Grabara to send the home crowd into celebration.

Boniface’s impact in his 24 minutes on the pitch was impressive.

The Nigerian forward completed all his dribbles, created several chances, and showed remarkable strength by winning every ground and aerial duel.

His energy and composure helped shift momentum in Bremen’s favour at a crucial stage.

Post-match remark by head coach Horst Steffen

“Of course, going 0–1 down wasn’t how I had imagined things. In the first half it went back and forth, it was relatively even although we played with great intensity, which I liked.

“The fact that we kept at it, and then rewarded ourselves, that’s exactly what I want to see. We stuck to our game and it’s something very special to celebrate home wins here.”

Werder Bremen will next face RB Leipzig on November 23 after the international break.

Boniface, who was not called up for Nigeria’s CAF World Cup qualifying playoffs, will use the break to train and reset.
