Boniface Impresses in Werder Bremen Debut

Victor Boniface came off the bench to provide an assist in his Werder Bremen debut, as Werder cruised to a dominant 4–0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in their Bundesliga clash.

Samuel Mbangula, Jens Stage, Romano Schmid, and Justin Njinmah were all on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Boniface was introduced in the 75th minute and wasted no time making an impact.

He provided an assist for his fellow countryman Justin Njinmah, completed 100% of his passes, and recorded one ball recovery.

Before the game, Werder head coach Steffen Horst had already praised the Nigerian forward.

He said, “Someone who can play football like that can certainly raise the level of our game.” Horst added, “He has movements that I’ve never seen before. I’ve observed this multiple times. They are exceptionally good. I’m very satisfied.”

Boniface’s performance validated Horst words and the gaffer was all smiles during the game.

Super Eagles new boy Felix Agu also gave a solid account of himself.

The fullback played the full 90 minutes, completing 26 passes, three of which were into the final third and creating one chance. Defensively, Agu was outstanding.

He cleared an effort off the line, made six other defensive clearances, two interceptions, and six ball recoveries.

The 22-year-old also won 88% of his ground duels and 50% of his aerial battles.

It was Die Werderaner’s first of the season, and they will now turn their focus to their next Bundesliga fixture, as they welcome Freiburg to Weser Stadium on Saturday, September 20.
